It was a pleasure to welcome back Queen Mary School alumna Linda Elliott Taylor OBE to AKS for a special visit. Following a visit to the former Queen Mary site, Linda spent time on campus reconnecting with the school community and kindly donating items of uniform, making the occasion all the more meaningful.
After leaving Queen Mary School, Linda went on to build a distinguished career in careers education, eventually becoming Head of the Careers Service in Essex and working internationally in the sector. She also advised the Department for Education, helping to trial and introduce The Real Game to the UK, an innovative programme designed to prepare young people for the realities of working life. This work, alongside her wider contributions, led to her being awarded an OBE.
During her visit, Linda reflected on her journey and shared how her time at Queen Mary shaped her path. Her story is a powerful reminder of the breadth of opportunities available to our pupils and the lasting impact of a Queen Mary legacy at AKS.
Returning to familiar surroundings, Linda was warm, engaging, and clearly passionate about the education she received. It was a real pleasure to spend time with someone who so genuinely values her school experience and recognises how it helped shape her journey. She spoke with such appreciation for the opportunities she was given, and how an education like this can open doors to fantastic careers. It was inspiring to hear from someone who has gone on to achieve so much yet still holds such a strong connection to her roots.
