Fondly Remembered

Margaret became Head of Queen Mary School in 1981 following a successful headship at Queenswood School in Hertfordshire. A physicist by training, she led QMS for 17 years until her retirement in 1998, shortly before the school's amalgamation with King Edward VII School.

During her time as Head, Margaret oversaw a period of significant development, broadening the curriculum, strengthening careers guidance and enhancing opportunities for Sixth Form students. A passionate believer in the value of girls' education, she encouraged generations of young women to pursue their ambitions with confidence and determination.

Former colleagues remember her as an inspiring and supportive leader who combined high standards with genuine warmth and a keen interest in every pupil's progress and wellbeing. She took great pride in the achievements of her students and earned the respect and affection of staff, parents and pupils alike.

Margaret's contribution to Queen Mary School and to the lives of the many young people she helped shape will not be forgotten. She is remembered with gratitude, admiration and great affection by the school community she served so devotedly.
