Today, we were delighted to welcome Margaret Bradshaw (nee Ainsley), daughter of the late King Edward VII Alumnus Richard Ainsley (KES 1961–1967), who visited school to donate a remarkable collection of her late father’s school memorabilia.
The items - including Richard’s original school blazer, cap, tie, scarf, report book, Founders’ Day Programmes and a complete set of roll books - were carefully preserved by the family and have now been returned to their rightful home.
During his time at KES, Richard contributed fully to school life. He was a school prefect, librarian and active member of both the Historical Association and the Current Affairs Club. He excelled academically, leaving with strong grades in History and Politics. His keen interest in politics shaped his career path, leading to a highly successful role in local government overseeing the democratic process for local council elections in Lancashire.
During her visit, Margaret took a trip down memory lane, reflecting on her father’s fond schooldays. Richard was also a proud member of the Argonauts and often spoke warmly of his time at King Edward VII School.
We are deeply grateful to Margaret for this generous gift, which will form a wonderful part of our school’s heritage and help preserve the story of generations past for our alumni community today.
